José Carlos began his professional career at CHEVEZ and was admitted as a Partner in 1999. His practice focuses on Tax Consulting, and he has extensive experience advising large Mexican and multinational groups, financial institutions, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals, particularly in the structuring and implementation of strategies involving mergers and acquisitions, international tax treaties, private wealth investments, private equity funds, and collective investment vehicles.
He is the author of various international tax publications, including the Mexico chapter of “Tax Planning for International Mergers, Acquisitions, Joint Ventures and Restructurings”, published by Kluwer. He has also served as a professor of International Taxation at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
In addition, José Carlos leads the Firm’s Sustainability practice, which focuses on helping companies integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into their business strategies. His work includes consulting projects related to reporting under the Mexican Sustainability Reporting Standards (NIS) and IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards (IFRS S1 and S2), as well as the analysis of corporate practices aimed at strengthening corporate responsibility and creating sustainable value.
His approach is based on the conviction that the effective adoption of sustainability practices not only benefits shareholders but also contributes to long-term value creation by integrating and measuring impact through the Triple Bottom Line framework: Profit, People, Planet.
He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of various Mexican and multinational companies in industries such as multimedia, banking, and non-profit organizations. Throughout his career, he has provided pro bono services to a variety of associations and institutions in Mexico.
